Spiner was raised in Houston, Texas. He moved to New York City in 1974, supported himself by
driving a cab and eventually landed work in off-Broadway productions. Gradually his work
expanded to Broadway and in 1985 he moved to Los Angeles landing roles on many popular
television shows. In 1987, Spiner was cast in the role of 'Data' for "Star Trek: The Next
Generation". The series was cancelled in 1994, but Spiner's 'Data' we on to appear in the 1996
sequel "Star Trek: First Contact" and in the 1998 "Star Trek: Insurrection". His most recent credits
include the HBO biography "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge" and "Geppetto" due to be released
this year.
